Lachette’s days are spent shoveling snow, feeding the penguins, cleaning their enclosure, all in about 4C. When the glass walls of the penguin tank need cleaning, he dons a dry suit to swim in the water, where the temperature is slightly warmer at 9C. Without a dry suit, hypothermia would set in and he would be unconscious in less than an hour – and it take him an hour and a half to clean up the tank.
